#AbsolutBrooklyn

14 Aug

What has this bottle and Design for Persuasion in common?

While in Brooklyn, I noticed this add from Absolut Brooklyn, which really attracted my attention because of the design. Then I noticed it was a Spike Lee joined venture (Spike Lee among a lot of other artist lives in Brooklyn).

This initiative from Absolut, is for a social cause,’ habitat for humanities’. The advertising is all over the place offline and online. On Facebook there is the Absolut Brooklyn community, there people are triggered to send in Photos, Videos, and stories about their Summer Stoop experiences and fun parties. People are motivated because of the Spike Lee effect, and go to action immediately, great crowd sourcing too!

I really like this new form of advertising, and I think it is pretty cool that big brands connect themselves to social causes, and spent money on that to create a better world!

3 elements:

  • Motivation for sales and end user:
limited edition of the bottle (where I bought the bottle, the guy told me they go really fast!) Stimulates sales (collectors item)
  • Trigger for people
Getting a possible attention of Spike Lee and Absolut! Trough postings of photos, video, stories
Being in a community that is artistic
  • Ability:
Everybody can deliver photos, video and stories! Also on Flickr there is of course the #absolutbrooklyn tag

The Case AGAINST Viral Video For Business And E-Commerce

31 Jul

The Case AGAINST Viral Video For Business And E-Commerce.

Interview with Dr. BJ Fogg, Director of Stanford University’s Persuasive Technology Lab, on what insights he has to share on the opportunities and challenges with effective video in e-commerce.  Dr. Fogg also discusses (what I admittedly characterize) the problem mentality of basing success models for Internet video based on how “viral” they may go, rather than understanding the psychological models for changing visitors’ (or customers’) behavior.

BJ Fogg about Simplicity

20 Jul

While I was with BJ at Stanford in February, we discussed this topic very briefly, here you find a more in depth view on simplicity. Simplicity is based on 6 elements and depending on scarcest resources at a certain moment: time, money, physical effort, brain cycles, social deviance, non routines, all this depending on the moment and the personality

Are you designing for behavior change?

13 Jun

Dr BJ Fogg and his Stanford team, worked on a tool to help you successfully design for behavior change, called Behavior Wizard.

It will enable you to learn more about a specific behavior, and creating solutions for it.

The behavior types have been put in a behavior grid, and make it more easy to categorize certain behavior types. And map these in the grid.

for example

- a BLACK PATH behavior. STOP smoking forever.
- a PURPLE SPAN behavior , INCREASE a certain behavior for a certain time, more fitness during the week.
- a GREEN DOT behavior, do a NEW behavior One time, optimize your house for energy saving.

We will talk more about this grid and its usage during our 2nd edition of Design for Persuasion.

BJ Fogg published his behavior grid

26 Nov

35 ways behavior can change.

35 different types of behavior. The purpose is to help people (including myself!) think more clearly about behavior change. For example, a GreenDot behavior is different from a BlackPath behavior. Each of the 35 behaviors types uses different psychology strategies and persuasive techniques.

BJ will add more to this framework by creating links inside each cell. Right now, there are just a few links, but eventually each behavior cell will link to a resource guide. I welcome your feedback (and encouragement — this is a huge project).
